Woods welcomes Day to the 'Nike Golf Club'
The man who helped build the Nike Golf brand, Tiger Woods, is now welcoming Jason Day to the "Nike Golf Club."
LOOK: Tiger Woods as ‘Mac Daddy Santa’ is creepy
Tiger Woods is probably the most jacked, gangster Santa Claus you’ve ever seen. Don’t believe me? Check out the photo he recently posted on Twitter, which shows a shirtless Woods in a Santa cap, wig, white goatee and Raiders cap. That’s about as gangster as it gets, and we’re going to guess even Ice T would approve. Xmas tradition that my kids love. Mac Daddy Santa is back! -TW — Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) December 22, 2016 Quite the evolution for Tiger. But one must adapt to survive, right? me at the beginning of 2016 vs. me at the end of 2016 — O Fanenbaum (@FanSince09) December 22, 2016 Maybe he should play in his next major dressed as Mac Daddy Santa. Given his recent results, he can’t really do all that much worse, so it doesn’t hurt to try.
Jason Dufner fiercely defends Grayson Allen
Grayson Allen has a defender other than coach Mike Krzyzewski. The Duke star came under scrutiny on Wednesday night when he intentionally tripped Elon guard Steven Santa Ana in the first half of Duke’s 72-61 win over the Phoenix. This was the third such incident for Allen, and Coach K saw fit to suspended him indefinitely on Thursday. One professional athlete, however, came to the defense of the pre-season All-American. Professional golfer and 2013 PGA Champion Jason Dufner went on a mild twitter rant, where he vehemently defended Allen for his “competitive disorder,” and shared a story about his own struggles with “competitive tripping.” Take a look at Duf-Daddy’s defense of Duke’s star guard. Tripping in hockey= 2mins in the box… tripping in basketball= suspension and you need counseling.. — Jason Dufner (@JasonDufner) December 22, 2016 I once tripped a friend in a foot race intentionally, so I could win the race. I apologized, we moved on with life. No c
Tiger Woods as 'Mac Daddy Santa' will ruin your Christmas
The holiday season is full of traditions, and each family has its own set of traditions. Apparently, Tiger Woods has a tradition in which he poses like the baddest mother effin’ Santa possible. Woods shared an image of himself on Twitter in which he is seen with no shirt on with a Santa wig and a black Raiders cap. Considering his recent choice of facial hair, this all makes for one bad ass Santa, one you do NOT want to mess with. Xmas tradition that my kids love. Mac Daddy Santa is back! -TW — Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) December 22, 2016 So, what exactly is the tradition here? Is it simply posing in a tough guy stance without a shirt on and a Santa wig and black hat? I don’t like stepping on another family’s traditions, because that is what makes the holiday season special in each family’s own unique ways, but I cannot help but want more information on this particular tradition. At the same time, I imagine there are plenty of folks out there thankful this holida
Jordan Spieth predicts College Football Playoff national champion by putting
There’s so much unpredictability in college football, but Jordan Spieth appears to have a system for projecting who’ll win it all this season. Spieth elected to predict who’ll win the College Football Playoff in a unique way—by putting. Spieth and AT&T collaborated to produce a video, in which he putted Alabama, Washington, Clemson and Ohio State balls to predict the national champion. Congrats, Alabama fans, you’re going to beat Clemson in the title game, according to Spieth. This embed is invalid" /> Alabama is currently the heavy favorite to win it all, anyway, so Spieth’s prediction may come true.
A golfer tried to play from a frozen water hazard and it did not end well
Sometimes in golf things just don’t go your way. A sliced drive, a chip in the bunker or an aggravating double-bogey. Whatever it is, sometimes you have to accept that things happen and you move on to the next hole. That clearly wasn’t the thought process for this golfer, who thought it would it be a smart idea to try and shoot from a frozen water hazard. As expected, it did not go over well. Bubba Watson switching golf ball companies in the name of color coordination
Tiger Woods officially signed a deal to play and endorse Bridgestone balls this week, but that’s a deal that has been in the works for some time. Tiger had to switch, since Nike was no longer going to be producing balls. Bubba Watson, though, is leaving Titleist for Volvik, a Korean company known more for its presence on the LPGA Tour. This is certainly fascinating, as Volvik is a niche brand, and certainly possesses nowhere near the market share of Titleist and their trademark ProV1 line. I've been told that Bubba will no longer be playing a Titleist ball in 2017, and will be playing Volvik colored balls. Can't make this up. — No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) December 13, 2016 No clue what Titleist is paying Bubba, but I'm told he's getting $1 million from Volvik. Bizarre to jump ship on Titleist at that price. — No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) December 13, 2016 In addition to the report from No Laying Up (also first to report that Tiger was going to be playing Bridgestone balls), a South Korean newspap
Tiger Woods signs exclusive deal with Bridgestone
Tiger Woods has not yet decided which golf club manufacturer he wants to commit to now that he has returned to competitive play, but he knows which brand of ball he is going to hit this season. On Thursday morning, Bridgestone announced that Woods has signed a multi-year agreement to exclusively play and promote Bridgestone golf balls. “Finding the right golf ball is extremely important,” Woods said in a press release. “It’s an essential part of my equipment, and the Bridgestone B330-S ball is hands-down the best for my game. Controlling launch and trajectory is critical, and with this ball I feel I have total control to hit all shots accurately. I’m not just here to play — I’m here to win, and the innovative breakthroughs of the Bridgestone B330-S ball can help me do that.” Angel Ilagan, president and CEO of Bridgestone Golf, said Tiger’s decision to go with Bridgestone “sends a clear message that our golf balls are superior to all others.” Tiger was the face of Nike Golf for years,
Tiger Woods predictably sent Hero World Challenge ratings soaring
Here’s a breaking news bulletin for you: Tiger Woods is good for golf ratings. That might be an odd thing to say about someone who before the weekend was the 898th ranked golfer in the world. It might also be an odd thing to say about someone who hadn’t played in an official event since August 2015 and missed the cut in the last three majors that he played. But this is still golf and this is still Tiger Woods. Nobody has ever had a bigger impact on the popularity of their sport than Tiger Woods, especially when it comes to television ratings. Tiger finally made his long-awaited return to competitive golf at his own tournament, the Hero World Challenge. And while the special postseason event in the Bahamas may not have the place to make the splashiest return, it certainly got more people than usual to tune in. Geoff Shackelford has the full breakdown of the ratings increase from the tournament and it’s staggering. Thursday: .86 rating, up 190% versus last year, most watched first round since the Br
Is this Tiger's last chance to be Tiger Woods again?
Tiger Woods is officially back Thursday, playing the first round of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. The last time Tiger Woods put a peg in the ground at a competitive event was Aug. 23, 2015. He was playing the final round of the Wyndham Championship, a lower-prestige event he’d normally skip, in an effort to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs. He closed with an even par 70, finishing tied for 10th. It wasn’t good enough to make the playoffs, and that September, Woods announced he’d undergone back surgery. In October, he announced he’d undergone a follow-up surgery. This was on the heels of a season already shortened by back issues, hence his failure to qualify for the playoffs up to that point. And 2015 followed a 2014 season in which Woods only played seven events due to back problems, making just three cuts. Things were clearly trending in a negative direction. In fact, his top 10 at the Wyndham is the only top 10 Woods has earned since the 2013 Barclays, where he finished second. It’s
