Sanford scores winner for Capitals, then gets sent to AHL
WASHINGTON (AP) During the second intermission on Saturday night, Capitals rookie Zach Sanford told himself to ''shoot a little more.'' He'll have to remember that next time he's in Washington. Sanford scored the game-winning goal for the Capitals in a 6-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks, then was re-assigned to Hershey of the AHL. ''That was a pretty cool first one to get,'' said Sanford, who helped Washington to a sixth straight victory and 12th consecutive home win. ''There were a couple chances I passed up. And I got one, got the shot off and it went in.'' Sanford played his first NHL game since mid-December, and Washington announced after the game that the 22-year-old had been re-assigned to Hershey after being recalled from the Bears on Wednesday. The Capitals have their bye week coming up and don't play again until next Saturday. By finishing off Brett Connolly's cross-ice pass, he became the latest beneficiary of a deep Washington offense that has now tied an NHL record by scoring five goals or more
Berglund collects first career hat trick as Blues beat Canadiens 4-2
MONTREAL -- Patrik Berglund scored three goals to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 4-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night for their fourth straight road win. David Perron also scored for the Blues, who end a stretch of five consecutive away games on Wednesday in Detroit. St. Louis has won five of its last six games overall. Berglund's hat trick gave him six goals in his last five games and 17 on the season. Shea Weber and Max Pacioretty scored for the slumping Canadiens, who are 1-4-1 in their last six. The Canadiens controlled most of the play and outshot St. Louis 30-22, but lacked finish around the net. The Blues went ahead 3:49 into the game when Jeff Petry lost his stick and Alex Pietrangelo had an open shot that Berglund got a piece of as it went past Al Montoya, who lost his balance and fell in his crease just before the shot was taken. It was the first goal Montoya allowed at the Bell Centre this season in four appearances. Weber tied it at 16:39 with a blast from the right point that

Sam Reinhart also scored for Buffalo, and Robin Lehner made 43 saves. Mitch Marner scored for Toronto, and Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on 23 shots. The Maple Leafs went on a tear from mid-December until late January, taking 24 of a possible 32 points over a 16-game span, but they have since stumbled. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 26 of 29 shots for Winnipeg, which lost its fourth straight game. It was also the Jets' fifth straight loss at home, something they hadn't done since a five-game winless skid in March 2014.
Lundqvist reaches 400 victories; Rangers' win streak hits 5
NEW YORK (AP) Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves for his 400th career win and the New York Rangers earned their fifth consecutive victory, beating the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 on Saturday night. Lundqvist is the 12th goaltender in NHL history with at least 400 wins and the first European-born goaltender to reach the mark. Lundqvist also is the third goaltender to get 400 wins with one franchise. The others are Martin Brodeur (Devils) and Tony Esposito (Blackhawks). Lundqvist is 8-1 in his past nine appearances. Defenseman Kevin Klein had two goals and Rick Nash had the go-ahead score for the Rangers, who swept their season-long four-game homestand and have won eight of 10 overall. Kevin Hayes added an empty-net goal to clinch it. Gabriel Landeskog and John Mitchell scored and Calvin Pickard made 26 saves for Colorado, which has the fewest wins in the NHL with 15.
Wayne Simmonds' OT goal lifts Flyers over Sharks 2-1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Wayne Simmonds scored on a breakaway just over a minute into overtime and Michal Neuvirth made 23 saves Saturday, helping the Philadelphia Flyers end a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Ivan Provorov scored in regulation for Philadelphia. Patrick Marleau had the goal for Pacific Division-leading San Jose, which lost its fourth straight game and fifth in the last seven. Three of the Sharks' losses during the losing skid have been after regulation. Simmonds capitalized on a turnover at center ice by Brent Burns and beat Aaron Dell with a shot that went off Dell's left pad and over the line. The goal was confirmed after a video review.
