Chicago Blackhawks: Is the World Cup of Hockey a concern?
For the Chicago Blackhawks, the World Cup of Hockey hasn’t been all fun and games. Before the games even started, both fans and the team speculated about possible injuries that could occur. In order to not aggravate a surgery he had last season, defenseman Duncan Keith even pulled out of the tournament, choosing to instead remain healthy for the upcoming NHL season. The official World Cup games have not yet started, but two members of the Hawks team has already been injured in the exhibition games. Neither injury has been season-ending or of that nature thankfully, but both are a cause for concern among Hawks fans. Marian Hossa, playing for Team Europe, left Thursday’s game vs Team North America early after he was hit in the foot by a puck. He had the foot x-rayed at a hospital, but was found only to be bruised. Following the incident, Hossa was cleared to play, which is a good sign not only for Team Europe, but also for the Blackhawks. Hossa provides leadership and experience both on and off the ice for
Marian Hossa 'good to go' for Team Europe after foot injury scare
The Blackhawks forward will be back on the ice. Chicago Blackhawks forward is "good to go" for Team Europe after suffering a left foot bruise Thursday, Europe head coach Ralph Krueger told ESPN's Craig Custance. Hossa, 37, left Thursday's game against Team North America after playing nearly 11 minutes in the first two periods. He recorded one shot on goal and no points. He was transported to a Quebec City hospital for X-rays, but no damage was found. Team Europe will face Team North America in a pre-tournament rematch at 5 p.m. CST Sunday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Hossa and Team Europe dropped the first game 4-0 at Videotron Centre in Quebec City. Team Europe's final pre-tournament game is Wednesday against Team Sweden at 6 p.m. CST at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Hossa is one of 10 Blackhawks participating in this year's World Cup of Hockey, which is set to begin later this month at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Patrick Kane selected US alternate captain
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) A year after Patrick Kane's career appeared in jeopardy because of a sexual assault claim, the Chicago Blackhawks star was named one of the alternate captains for the United States for the World Cup of Hockey. ''It's a huge honor for sure,'' Kane said. ''It's one of those things I don't know if I was expecting to receive that, but at the same time, I still think it's a responsibility I can handle and hopefully take somewhat of a leadership role and take charge.'' The sexual assault case in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, was dropped Nov. 5 for what the prosecutor said was a clear lack of evidence, and Kane quickly put the off-ice troubles aside. He had an early 26-game points streak and became the first American-born player to win the Art Ross (top scorer) and Hart (most valuable player) trophies. ''Sometimes you look back, it's almost like a blur, it went by so quick,'' he said. ''It didn't seem like it at the time but it was a really fun year.'' He had 106 points (46 goals, 60 a
2016-17 Season Preview: Chicago Blackhawks
For the first time since 2007-08, the Chicago Blackhawks were quite mediocre. Yes, they finished with 103 points but they had a negative goal differential at even strength. That's simply not going to get it done and at this point, the Blackhawks are out of the first tier of teams in the NHL. It sounds crazy to say with the stars they have but man, the roster is incredibly thin after the top few guys. For fantasy, there's not much in terms of value plays but if you're willing to spend a high pick, you'll have your choice of some studs. Let's take a look at what Chicago is working with:
