Diamondbacks' Pollock to miss time, Herrmann needs surgery
PHOENIX (AP) Diamondbacks outfielder A.J. Pollock has a strained groin and could be out for the rest of the season. Pollock was hurt running out a fly ball early in Friday night's game against San Francisco, and an MRI on Saturday revealed the extent of the injury. Arizona manager Chip Hale said the injury is treatable but it could be at least a week before he can resume physical activity. ''It could be the end of the season. We're not going to put him back out there until he's 100 percent,'' Hale said. Pollock made his season debut two weeks ago after being activated from the 60-day disabled list following his recovering from a broken right elbow suffered in the spring. He is hitting .303 in his last 10 games after starting out 0 for 8. ''He was running straight ahead and he just felt it tighten up,'' Hale said. ''Physically it stinks for him, but I think on the mental side it's still difficult, because A.J. was feeling great. He was really enjoying being a part of the club on the field.'' The Diamond

D-backs’ Chris Herrmann To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
Diamondbacks catcher Chris Herrmann will undergo season-ending wrist surgery on Tuesday, reports FanRag Sports’ Jack Magruder (Twitter link). Herrmann broke two bones in his left wrist while attempting to steal on Friday. Herrmann was an effective piece of the Diamondbacks’ offense in his first year with the club, though injuries weighed him down. Earlier this week, he returned from a hamstring issue that had sidelined him since the middle of July. Arizona acquired Herrmann from the Twins for minor league outfielder/first baseman Daniel Palka in November, and the 28-year-old unexpectedly slashed .284/.352/.493 with six home runs and four steals across 166 plate appearances. At the time the D-backs traded for Herrmann, he was a .181/.249/.280 hitter in 389 major league PAs. San Francisco maintained its half-game lead over the Mets for the top NL wild card, with St. Louis just a half-game behind New York. Giants reliever Corey Gearrin got one out before being moved to left field for one batter so lefty Javier Lopez could face left-handed-hitter Jake Lamb, who tied the score at 6 with a pinch-hit homer in the 10th. Gearrin was then put back on the mound by manager Bruce Bochy to finish the game for his third save. With two runners on, Gearrin struck out Welington Castillo looking for the second out on a 3-2 pitch, and Castillo was ejected for arguing. Yasmany Tomas grounded out to end it.
