Showtime sues Pacquiao’s promoter over Mayweather fight issue

Showtime is suing Manny Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank Inc., in an attempt to get the promotional company to help cover some legal expenses they have incurred. You may recall that after Pacquiao lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May, the Filipino immediately complained that he was fighting with a shoulder injury. Pacquiao’s injury was cited as a big reason why the fight was such a bust, and it led to some pay-per-view buyers to file lawsuits complaining about the fight. Showtime would like some money from Top Rank to help pay their legal costs arising from defending themselves in these suits. The Hollywood Reporter says Showtime filed a lawsuit in New York federal court Wednesday saying that Top Rank breached the indemnification agreement between the two. Showtime accuses Top Rank of refusing to defend and indemnify them in the face of lawsuits from fans complaining about the fight. They say their legal expenses eclipse $680,000. THR also reports that Top Rank threatened Showtime last October over figh

Adrien Broner calls Floyd Mayweather ‘irrelevant’

Former world champion Adrien Broner never stops running his mouth, and his arrogant, cocky demeanor has made him the biggest villain in the boxing world since Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired. The beef between he and Mayweather was finally winding down, but out of nowhere, Broner released a diss track a few days ago and went off on The Money Team. To talk about it, Broner went on a radio show, “The Durtty Boyz,” on HOT 107.9 Monday. He opened up about his relationship with Mayweather during the interview. When the radio show host, Stuey Rock, commented that Broner and Mayweather’s relationship was like a big brother-little brother one, Broner quickly got heated and spoke up. He said he didn’t want to feel like he was beneath Floyd, and he feels that he has what it takes to surpass him, even though Money May is undefeated. Broner went on to say that he’s hot, and relevant, while Floyd, on the other hand, isn’t fighting and is tasked with doing things to keep himself relevant. It’s not surprising tha

Mayweather spends $1K each haircut, gets multiple per week

Nothing is more important to Floyd Mayweather Jr. than his image, so we really shouldn’t be surprised to hear how much he spends on haircuts. Still, we can’t help but shake our head at it. TMZ recently spoke with Jackie Starr, who is Mayweather’s stylist and has been cutting his hair since 2009. It sounds like a pretty good gig for her, as Floyd pays $1,000 per haircut and hits her up multiple times a week. “I cut his hair two times a week, three times is pushing it, but then it also depends on the occasion,” Starr said. “If he’s in training I will cut him Monday, Wednesday and Friday.” That means there are weeks when Starr makes $3,000 just for cutting Mayweather’s hair. She could do nothing else and pull in six figures annually by giving Floyd haircuts. Not bad, right? As we know, Mayweather has lots and lots of money. Spending $1,000 on a haircut is pretty much par for the course considering what his iPod looks like.

Mayweather thinks McGregor fight will 'absolutely' happen

Even though the chances of Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever fighting Conor McGregor are incredibly slim, the undefeated boxing champion is intent on keeping the public interested. Mayweather, who loves the spotlight and has always been a fantastic promoter, was asked again about the McGregor rumors during an interview with Showtime Friday night. When the host gave him a chance to admit he was just “looking for attention,” Floyd doubled down. “Well, it’s really not a rumor,” he said. “The fight may happen. We really don’t know as of right now. But do I think the fight will happen? Absolutely.” Mayweather said last weekend that a fight with McGregor is a possibility, so he has upgraded the chances. He said the bout would have to be a boxing match because most fights McGregor won were as a stand-up fighter anyway. Floyd even went as far as to say McGregor could give him a “tough” fight. “He’s no pushover. One thing about Conor McGregor, he’s no pushover,” Mayweather said. “He fell shor

Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury goes off on religious, racist rant

World heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury is already known for making extremely controversial statements based on his religious beliefs. He’s not going to stop, either, apparently. Fury launched into an hour-long interview, posted on YouTube by Sports View London, in which he attacks Jews, homosexuals and the LGBT community as a whole, among other groups of people who are going straight to hell in his mind. Before clicking on this link to see the interview for yourself, know that Fury’s foul mouth can be quite offensive to many. It’s clearly NSFW material. Here is a short excerpt from the long interview, which clues us in about the tenor of his filthy rant: “It’s like you’re a freak of nature if you’re normal, you’re the odd one out nobody else. What’s normal? I’ll just get myself changed into a woman that’s normal isn’t it today call myself Tysina or something like that, put a wig on…I don’t think it’s normal. I think they’re freaks of nature.” “Everyone just do

Shane Mosley says Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovki set for Sept. 17

There has been a lot of talk about an upcoming fight between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, but is the bout already scheduled? Shane Mosley says so. Mosley tweeted a few times on Wednesday to say that Canelo and GGG will be fighting on Sept. 17: Canelo and GGG Sep17th! Hope no other fight competing with this in Sep. Fight of the year right here. Good job GBPpic.twitter.com/NXRd4YNcUF — Shane Mosley (@ShaneMosley_) May 11, 2016 Mosley also used his newsworthy tweet as an opportunity to publicize his own May 28 fight. Was Mosley just trying to generate attention for his own fight or is he actually breaking some news? Canelo already shared his interest in making the fight happen, while GGG has been pressuring Alvarez over Twitter. Canelo’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya even said after Alvarez’s victory over Amir Khan Saturday that the fight with GGG was the one to make and he would start trying to make it happen. September has long been talked about as a potential date for the fight. Mosley

Arum: Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch not going to happen

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are not going to fight again, according to Pacquiao’s longtime promoter. It has been widely reported that Pacquiao has won a senate seat in his home country of the Philippines, with the official results set to be announced next week. After he beat Timothy Bradley last month, Pacquiao said his boxing future would be determined by the election. On Tuesday, Bob Arum told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael that he believes Pacquiao is done with fighting. “My feeling is that he’s been elected to a very, very important position in the Filipino government,” Arum said. “So he owes an obligation to the people to work on his government responsibilities, and that doesn’t give him time to screw around and train for a fight the way he has to. You can’t do that.” As Arum notes, Pacquiao has been a congressman in the Philippines for two terms. However, there are more than 400 congressmen in the nation. Pacquiao will now have far more responsibility. Does that mean the 37-year

Gennady Golovkin pressuring Canelo Alvarez to fight

Gennady Golovkin is doing all he can to pressure Canelo Alvarez into fighting him in what would be the most anticipated boxing match of the year. Golovkin, aka “GGG,” and Canelo are two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and there has been chatter about them meeting for the past year or so. The big stumbling block so far has been weight; Alvarez fights in the middleweight class but at a catchweight limit of 155 pounds. Golovkin has been a true middleweight fighting at the 160-pound limit since he began his professional career in 2006. Alvarez has been trying to get GGG to come down to his 155-pound catchweight, but GGG for obvious reasons does not want to do that. Now Golovkin is using social media to try pressuring Alvarez into fighting him. Ever since Canelo beat Amir Khan over the weekend — a fight GGG attended — he has been on social media pushing for the fight. Take a look: Who is ready for #CaneloGolovkin? You know I am ready https://t.co/18Vo6BHDK3 — Gennady Golovkin (@GG

Jerry Jones could host GGG-Canelo Alvarez fight

Immediately after knocking out Amir Khan on Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez turned his attention to Gennady Golovkin, better known as GGG. Alvarez told fans what they want to hear by issuing a challenge to GGG, and the fight could draw so much interest that Jerry Jones is reportedly considering hosting it. Jones was in attendance to watch Alvarez beat Khan, and Oscar De La Hoya said after the bout that he is planning to fly to Dallas to discuss the possibility of an Alvarez-GGG fight being held at the home of the Cowboys. De La Hoya said he'll fly to Dallas to discuss an Alvarez-Golovkin fight. Jerry Jones was at the fight tonight. "It's a huge possibility." — Lance Pugmire (@latimespugmire) May 8, 2016 De La Hoya also mentioned Dodger Stadium as a possibility. The main issue, of course, is weight. GGG fights at 160 and Alvarez has been fighting at the catch weight of 155. Now that Canelo says he is willing to fight at 160, there shouldn’t be much standing in the way. Alvarez delivered a vicious k

Khan assures fans he is ‘okay’ after knockout loss

Amir Khan wasted little time posting on social media after his loss to Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas on Saturday night to assure his fans he was doing fine. Here’s the post from Khan, which included a photo: Im okay everyone thats boxing for you, congrats to @Canelo monster punch, much love to all the fans! #CaneloKhan pic.twitter.com/oQcqZQrsLl — Amir Khan (@amirkingkhan) May 8, 2016 Khan was knocked out cold in the sixth round by Canelo to the point that many — Canelo included — were worried about his health. He was able to come-to and then did an interview with HBO. As we can see, even an hour after the fight he seemed to be fine. You can see a video of the knockout blow here. Khan was taking a big risk by stepping up in weight to fight Canelo. He actually looked good for the first five and a half rounds before being caught by Alvarez. Though many will mock him for the knockout loss, he actually had a pretty decent showing and has nothing to be ashamed of.
