About Gordon Lightfoot
Born in 1938, Gordon Lightfoot is a folk, folk-rock, and country music singer from Ontario, Canada. He has been referred to as Canada's greatest songwriter. Lightfoot has had several number one songs throughout the years and his albums have achieved gold and multi-platinum status internationally. Some his popular singles like "For Lovin' Me", "Early Morning Rain", "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon of Darkness" have been covered by popular musicians throughout the years. Some of the artists to cover his sings have been Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and more. Lightfoot was a featured musical performer at the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta. In 2012, Lightfoot was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario.
