About R. Kelly
Born in 1967 in Chicago, IL Robert Sylvester Kelly, otherwise known as R. Kelly, got his career started in singing in the subways of Chicago. Kelly and his friend Marc McWilliams formed the group Musically Gifted Men and competed on a talent show called Big Break hosted by Natalie Cole. The two men won the show and $100,000 cash to get their careers started.

After the show R. Kelly and McWiliams disbanded and Kelly formed the group Publice Announcement which released their debut album, Born Into the 90’s, in 1992. The top rated singles, "She's Got That Vibe," "Honey Love" and "Slow Dance (Hey Mr. DJ)", were included on that album. After just one album, R. Kelly broke with the band and started out on his solo career.

Kelly released 12 Play in 1993 which contained the singles, "Your Body's Callin'," "Bump N' Grind," and "Sex Me", and instantly catapulted the R&B singer into super stardom. R. Kelly is one of the best-selling artists of the '90s. The 1996 release of "I Believe I Can Fly" for the Space Jam movie soundtrack became his best cross-over single ever.
