About New Kids on the Block
The New Kids on the Block are one the most popular boy bands of all time. New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) are an American boy band from Boston, MA formed in the early 1980’s by Maurice Starr. Starr also founded the band, New Edition. Starr chose 15-year-old Donnie Wahlberg, Donnie's younger brother, Mark Wahlberg, and their friends Danny Wood and Jordan Knight. Soon Jordan Knight's younger brother, Jonathan Knight, and 12-year-old Joey McIntyre joined the group. The group changed their name from Nynuk (original band name) to New Kids on the Block. Their first album bombed but their second album, Hangin’ Tough, went on to worldwide success. Some of the popular New Kids on the Block songs include "You Got It (The Right Stuff)," "Step By Step," "Please Don't Go Girl," and "Hangin' Tough." Other NKOTB favorites include "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," "Angel of Love," and "Valentine Girl." The group disbanded in 1994, but previously won two American Music Awards (AMAs) in 1990 for Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo, or Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album. They reunited in 2007 and recorded, “The Block”, but failed to reach the previous success of the 80’s and 90’s. NKOTB went on tour with the Backstreet Boys in 2011–12 under the tour name NKOTBSB. In 2008, New Kids on the Block reunited again to produce a new album, The Block. In 2015, NKOTB performed with Nelly and TLC on "The Main Event Tour." New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) have sold more than 80 million records worldwide.
