How the Rangers taught me to believe

It’s the middle of the summer and there’s not a lot going on, so naturally I’m missing hockey. The longing for our beloved sport has got me ruminating lately about favorite hockey memories, lessons learned from being a fan of this team, and what hockey means to me. Along those lines I’d like to share […] The post How the Rangers taught me to believe appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.

Is Kevin Klein the key to upgrading the Rangers defense?

With the signing of Marek Hrivik, the Rangers have cleared up most of their to-dos for this summer. They locked up their restricted free agents. They got younger, cheaper, and faster with a big trade that also brought back a high draft pick. They retooled their bottom-six with quicker, more skilled, better defensive, and better […] The post Is Kevin Klein the key to upgrading the Rangers defense? appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.

Can Chris Kreider be a Consistent Force for the New York Rangers?

This fall, New York Rangers’ left wing Chris Kreider will certainly have high expectations placed on him. But this is nothing new for the 25-year-old Massachusetts native. Last season, Rangers’ head coach Alain Vigneault stated that Kreider should be a 30 goal scorer. Well, in 2015-16 Kreider’s 21 goal total was disappointing, but entering the 2016-17 season, the Rangers’ power source has a new plan and some answers. “I probably spread myself too thin and got away from the player I know I am,” Kreider said. “It’s just about getting back to that power-forward game. I know what I do well and I know what I’m good at, and it’s sticking with those things.” Kreider also met with New York associate coach Scott Arniel who also has high expectations. “He’s an easy 30-goal scorer if he can have a consistent 80 or 82 games,” Arniel said. “I remember we had a conversation asking him about what kind of player did he think he was, and he didn’t say I’m a toe-dragging, stick-handling guy wh

He made his NHL debut on Feb. 21 against Detroit. The native of Slovakia was signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on May 30, 2012.

Retired Brad Richards will be paid by Rangers until 2025-26

Brad Richards may have retired, but he’ll still be getting paid handsomely – and regularly – as he starts a new phase of his career. General Fanager reports Richards will earn more than $5 million next season from the New York Rangers following his 2014 buyout and will be paid a total of $14.55 million for the next 10 years. It’s not a bad way to go out. Retired Brad Richards will earn $5,055,556 this year from his #NYR buyout, and a total of $14.55M from now until 2025-26 season. — General Fanager (@generalfanager) July 20, 2016 After Richards was bought out, his career continued to decline. He scored 37 points in 76 games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2014-15, winning his second Stanley Cup. Richards bottomed out at 28 points in 68 games with Detroit this past season. The 36-year-old’s best days are behind him and by retiring now, he leaves the game as a somewhat effective player. The buyout is reminiscent of the New York Mets’ deal with Bobby Bonilla in 2001.
