Journey Announces New Residency in Las Vegas

Journey residency returns to The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino May 3, 5-6, 10, 12-13, 17 and 19. The Wednesday shows (May 3, 10 and 17) feature Journey performing its seventh studio album, 1981’s Escape, and its eighth studio album, 1983’s Frontier, in their entirety.

Journey was formed in 1973 in San Francisco, CA. It was made up of former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. Between 1978 and 1987 the band reached high success with singles like “Don’t Stop Believin'”, which in 2009 became the top-selling track on iTunes. Journey’s album, Escape, the band’s eighth album, became their most successful and reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Journey’s concerts began selling out coast-to-coast and fans were flocking to find concert tickets as quick as they could. After a successful next couple of albums, the band broke up, however, they later regrouped with a series of lead singers.

In the summer of 2007, Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon began searching YouTube for a new lead singer. The band hired Filipino singer Arnel Pineda of the cover band The Zoo

Journey has won two gold albums, eight multi-platinum albums, and one diamond album. They have had eighteen Top 40 singles in the U.S., six of which reached the Top 10 of the US chart and two of which reached No. 1 on other Billboard charts.

Journey has sold 48 million albums in the U.S., making them the 25th best-selling band. Their songs have become arena rock staples and are still played on rock radio stations across the world.

In October of 2016, it was announced that Journey would be among the nominees for induction into the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Journey lineup up for induction will be Jonathan Cain, Aynsley Dunbar, Steve Perry, Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Steve Smith and Ross Valory.

Guns N’ Roses was formed in 1985 and the band was made up of Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, and Stephen Adler. The new act quickly gained national fame with their “Hell Tour.” The band came out swinging with popular singles that have now become Guns N’ Roses classics, such as “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Diamonds in the Rough,” “Paradise City,” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” After the tour ended, the band went into the production of their next album, Appetite for Destruction.

Appetite for Destruction, which was released in 1987, caught fire when the video for “Sweet Child O’ Mine” began airing on television. It is the band’s most successful album, with over 28 million records sold worldwide.

Shortly thereafter the band headed out on its “Appetite for Destruction Tour,” and started working on their next album, G N’ R Lies. It was another huge success, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling five million copies.

Moving into the 2000’s the band’s original lineup was gone, but Rose moved on with new members Paul Huge, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, and Josh Freese. The band failed to reach their previous success but in 2006, the band finally launched a new full-scale tour with the then-current lineup, the first successful concert series since 1994.

In 2008, Chinese Democracy was released, but it did not match the success of the band’s previous albums and reviews were mixed.

With most of the original band coming back together after arguments and fighting the band set out on a stadium tour in the summer of 2016. The band played massive stadiums like AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL, and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
